Simple Method to Back-up Files and Folders


This information is provided for back-up of non-program files (program files are files which came with the computer or program files  added later).
 
The files under discussion here are things like Word or Excel documents, photo’s, any other file which was created by a program on your computer.

There are many devices you can use to back up your folders and files.
1)   Second hard drive on computer
2)   External hard drives
3)   Flash drives
4)   Memory drives (cards or memory) on phones
5)   Cloud drives (services such as Carbonite Dropbox)
6)   Personal cloud drives.
 
The common term which describes each one of the devices is the word “drives.”
Back-up procedure or method.
 
Step #1 – Locate the folders or files on your computer.
 
Step #2 – Highlight the folders or files by a single left mouse click. The folder or file will become shaded and have a difference appearance.
 
Step #3 – Right click over highlighted folder or file.
 
Step #4 – A menu will appear. Choose either copy or cut the highlighted folders or files.
 
Step #5 – Locate the destination drive (see the types above) and right click bringing up a menu. Choose the paste option and your folders and files will be placed on the target or destination drive for back-up.
 
Note: Step #4 the menu provides an option between “cut” or “copy”.
 
If you select “cut”, the folder or files will be removed from the computer. If you select “copy”, the folder of files will remain on your computer and be moved to the target or destination drive.
